There is a dark place, with power—a landscape painted in ink where gods and monsters dance in blind chaos or perverted glee. Boschian beasts in bondage cavort with black metal dukes and apocalyptic cats devour the twitching, twerking body of Miley Cyrus like kebab. These are the children of Shaltmira, a beautiful menagerie writ across paper, plastic and human flesh.
Stare too long at Shaltmira’s visions, and their reality will begin to bleed in to yours. Her work has shaped many of my own pieces of writing; the rich details of her esoterica in conjunction with their demonically comic aspects make for a variety of influential leakage. Each work feels as though, were the viewer able to see past the boundaries of the medium, just a bit to the right—they’d find more paths, more stars, and further beings with impossible anatomies waiting to slide between the spaces of your mind.

“She Opened the Gates to the Unknown” is the title of one of Shaltmira’s numerous graphic works, " illustrating the essence of her intellectually and psychologically charged oeuvre. Shaltmira proper is a piece of art – with a black diamond in it. She performs her art and herself with a passion for the deepest secrets of human mind and collective consciousness, sharing with the audience the wisdom that she has learnt on her own path. The path of a warrior who has been here, there and everywhere in the underground art, bringing out the pure and unveiled darkness of the human soul like a shaman who goes deep down into the chaos to meet the creatures whom people do not dare even think of. In her paintings, she performs rituals that communicate to the inner monsters and other important creatures inhabiting our minds. Horror stories look like a kid’s joke in comparison to Shaltmira’s visual narratives full of spiders, hairy legs, bottomless eyes and every other kind of monsters that can only be spotted in real life, strange as it sounds.
Once you open the gates to the unknown, they can never be closed again. The artist has her own visions and follows them with honourable intensity. Shaltmira is ready to meet all the kinds of unexpected phenomena with her intellectual luggage of references to the symbols and mythologies of the world. She is always using rich visual heritage of the world cultures and religions as anthropologic material in her carefully painted scenes of subtle relationships among invisible demons. These are not always battle scenes, as the artist is interested in much more than that. Like a true explorer of the darkness of the unknown, she is constantly training herself to be ready for anything. Shaltmira is courageous, disciplined, cold-minded, witty and flamboyant. She is the pirate flag on the lonely ship out there in the ocean of collective subconsciousness. And she is going to sail in much bigger oceans quite soon, I believe.
