An orphic hymns states: 'You scattered the dark mist that lay before your eyes and, flapping your wings, you whirled about, and throughout this world you brought pure light. For this I call you Phanes.' In the drawing Phanes is still in the Egg. Phanes is a uroboric male-female deity of Light and Goodness, their name means ‘to bring light’, ‘to shine’. Phanes was believed to have been hatched from the World-Egg of Chronos (the personification of Time) and Ananke or Nyx, in the black bird form and wind. Ananke who represents Fate /Necessity /Force is frequently associated with Aphrodite. In the drawing we see the moment before the Birth. All can be simplified into the formulae: TIme + Love = Light. There are 7 drops of water pouring out from the cup, which represents emotions and deepest desires. In numerology 7 represents rest, contemplation, spirituality, sensitivity, sympathy and mastery. The Egg needs time to develop and grow, the Serpent is protecting it.Seven is the number of the Mind, so the Mind protects our inner Light. The tail of the Serpent forms the symbol of Infinity and the mountains in the horizon represent timelessness and an endurance that is infinite. As you do not wish to break the shell of the egg in which the life is developing, so you do not want to rush the Time itself. Water the soil of unconscious, where your deepest desires lay. The Serpent wears a Crown, it is the Queen of Serpents, it is Wisdom and Knowledge. There’s a fire above it, a fire of celestial Love.
