In ancient Egyptian astronomy, Aries was associated with the god Ammon Ra (Hidden Light), who was depicted as a man with a ram's head and represented fertility and creativity. When Egypt conquered Kush, they identified the chief deity of the Kushites as Amun. This deity was depicted as Ram headed, wooly ram with curved horns. The symbology of Ammon Ra was specifically meant to place on his horns which is to symbolize what we call today the ammon's horn and hippocampus. Because Aries constellation was the location of the vernal equinox, it was called the "Indicator of the Reborn Sun." Aries acquired the title of "Lord of the Head" in Egypt, referring to it's symbolic and mythological importance. Nine hundred sphinx' with rams' heads, representing Amon, were built in Thebes where his cult was strongest. Amon became Jupiter - Amon of the Greco Egyptians.
